Shucked: Tiny Desk Concert

Josh Rogosin | November 20, 2023 There was only one request I made to the creative team for Shucked: I need to see the corn kickline on the Tiny Desk, or it can't happen. Thankfully, choreographer Sarah O'Gleby came down to Washington, D.C. for the recording and made all my dreams come true. Shucked is the most fun you'll have on Broadway this season. There are a lot of great shows to see, but if you want to laugh, Shucked is the ticket. Lucky for us all, it's going on a national tour in the fall of 2024. Songwriting team Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally have plenty to say about their admiration for the performers interpreting their music for the stage. "The legend is that I threw a shoe," McAnally explains, recalling his excitement after seeing Alex Newell perform "Independently Owned" for the first time. "But I also threw my book with all my music." Halfway through the set, Clark starts singing her beautiful ballad written for the show, "Maybe Love," then Isabelle McCalla takes over as her character, Maizy. "We're going to show you the transformation that these songs take," Clark summarizes. "We write very simple songs and we're simple singers, and it's amazing to see our simple songs and voices turned into this." SHUCKED Star Andrew Durand Performs 'Somebody Will'

Subscribe for more Broadway videos! Follow us on Twitter - https://twitter.com/broadwayhistory Andrew Durand, who plays Beau in the new Broadway musical Shucked, appeared on the TODAY Show this morning to perform "Somebody Will" from the new musical comedy. Shucked is the new Broadway musical comedy, featuring a book by Tony Award® winner Robert Horn, a score by the Nashville songwriting team of Brandy Clark and Shane McAnally, who collectively have earned three Grammy Awards® and 18 Grammy nominations, and direction by three-time Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien. Shucked's appearance closed out a week of Broadway performances on the TODAY Show, following Bad Cinderella (watch here), Ragtime (watch here), and Parade (watch here). Shucked, currently in previews, will officially open at the Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41st Street) on Tuesday, April 4. Shucked also features Grey Henson and Ashley D. Kelley as Shucked's two Storytellers. They will be joined by (in alphabetical order) John Behlmann, Kevin Cahoon, Caroline Innerbichler, and Alex Newell. The ensemble of Shucked will feature Jimmy Brewer, Audrey Cardwell, Dwayne Clark, Rheaume Crenshaw, Jaygee Macapugay, Scott Stangland, Yasmeen Sulieman, and Quinn VanAntwerp. The swings are Miki Abraham, Ken Clark, Traci Elaine Lee, and Alan Wiggins. What do you get when you pair a semi-neurotic, New York comedy writer with two music superstars from Nashville? A hilarious and audacious farm-to-fable musical about the one thing Americans everywhere can't get enough of: corn. Shucked is the new musical comedy that proves sometimes tearing down a few walls, rather than growing them, is the only way to preserve our way of life. Shucked is about to turn Broadway on its ear and offer a kernel of hope for our divided nation.

Picnic Performances: Carnegie Hall Citywide Presents The Broadway Sinfonietta

Carnegie Hall Citywide presents five nights of genre-spanning music in July, featuring Afro Latin Jazz Ensemble, The Baylor Project, Squirrel Nut Zippers, The Broadway Sinfonietta, and The Hot Sardines Featuring Nellie McKay. The Broadway Sinfonietta is a highly acclaimed, all-women and majority-women-of-color orchestra making its anticipated full-orchestra debut under the musical direction of Macy Schmidt. The 25-piece ensemble brings a varied program to Bryant Park, including Sinfonietta signatures like “You’re Gonna Hear from Me,” hits from recent projects such as the TikTok musical Ratatouille, a preview of music from the orchestra’s upcoming debut album, and brand-new commissions and arrangements. Putting an orchestral spin on indie pop, classic Broadway, and contemporary musical theatre, the evening’s program explores the idea of finding one’s voice—and what to do with it once found. Led by a rotation of accomplished women guest conductors, the performance also features singers Arielle Jacobs and Solea Pfieffer with additional guest vocalists from Broadway to be announced. “For more than four decades, Carnegie Hall has partnered with community organizations in all five boroughs, offering free performances by renowned mainstage artists and rising musical stars in New York City neighborhoods, bringing together local residents and people from all over to share in great music,” said Clive Gillinson, Carnegie Hall’s Executive and Artistic Director. “As part of this commitment to community, we are thrilled to return to Bryant Park this summer, presenting five fantastic concerts, kicking off next season’s Carnegie Hall Citywide series.”
